The company's roots date back to 1964 when Chookiat and Jiraphorn Ruayjaroensap began selling pan-fried peanuts packed in heat-sealed plastic bags for one baht each Sales grew steadily, and by 1976 the snack had gained enough popularity for Chookiat and Jiraphorn to formally establish a business to mass produce the product. In 1979, the company frequently launched to add variety to the product line, including a honey-flavoured variety of Koh-kae in 1998 and a crisp rice biscuit under the brandname Beary in 1999. With its leading position in the Thai market well established, the company began to focus more on the international market, beginning with the Asia region. To spur international growth, the company has built a network of agents in seventeen countries, distributors in 14 more countries, and traders in nearly 50 countries. The company places great importance on hygienic manufacturing processes. This encompasses everything from choosing quality materials to the use of frozen storage facilities and careful monitoring of products using electronic eye sorting and magnetic separator machines. Skilled and experienced personnel select the peanuts, which are then examined in a laboratory to verify their quality and to check for residual substances both before and after the production process. Peanuts are examined for residual alfatoxins, cadmium, FFA humidity levels and PV oil levels. Koh-kae products are either roasted or fried. In the dry roasting process, heat-air roasting is used to eliminate humidity. This process also reduces the presence of residual substances in raw materials. The frying process involves the use of modern frying process. Moreover, the company's computer systems offer continuous monitoring of all manufacturing processes to ensure the highest levels of quality. Packaging is one of the key factors to help the Koh-kae brand stand out from the competition. Aside from a picture of its mascot,the company uses modern packaging technologies which help maintain product quality and freshness. Coated peanuts are either packed in metallic packages which are made of health-safe materials, or in aluminum foil packages. |
